What skills can I teach myself at home now? Anyone have ideas for starting over?

I’m in a bit of a tough spot right now and looking for advice on skills I can teach myself at home. I’m not great at traditional school, but I’m really into self-study. I’ve taught myself cooking, baking, different languages, and I’ve been reading business and marketing textbooks too. Last year, I tried to start a small business selling baked goods and preserves, but then I got diagnosed with cancer. It’s been a rough recovery, and I don’t think I’ll be able to work a normal job again due to the effects from chemo. Even baking now takes a toll on my body.

I was thinking about relaunching my small business, but with the tariffs on overseas ingredients and the high cost of running a food business in LA, I’m not sure it’s worth it. I have a good product and a solid plan, but I’m worried I might barely break even with the rising costs.

With the way the economy is heading, it seems like a lot of food businesses are shutting down, and people are eating out less. I’ve even started a GoFundMe to raise money for my dream of opening a café, but it doesn’t seem realistic right now. I’m trying to figure out what new skills I can teach myself at home so I can start a business that’s more profitable. I have an idea for a business in the pet industry, but I’m not sure where to find investors or how to protect my idea.

Has anyone else been through something like this? I want to make the most of my second chance at life, but starting from scratch after cancer has been tough. Any advice or suggestions?

Have you thought about learning vehicle vinyl wrapping? It’s pretty profitable these days, and you can do it from home with the right setup.

Have you considered creating digital products? You could make printable planners, recipe eBooks, or even online courses teaching your baking skills. Platforms like Etsy or Gumroad are low-cost to start and great for passive income.

Yes, I’ve thought about that. Selling recipes and tutorials online was part of my plan. I haven’t been active on social media for a while, but maybe I can start there and get some passive income.

@Lennon
That’s awesome! Even with a small following, you can still make it work. Social media can help you get the word out and build some momentum.
