I’m a beginner tattoo artist getting ready to expand. I recently opened up a business checking account , and the bank recommended I use Talech for taking payments, which I was previously unfamiliar with . My husband is in the same industry and uses Square and has generally been pretty happy with it . I’ve done a bit of research into both, but the pros/cons seem inconsistent (some say Square costs more overall , others say Talech costs more , etc). The main selling point the bank gave is that Talech deposits payments immediately , which honestly isn’t necessary for my needs. Has anyone had experience with both or with Talech?
I’ve been working in payments for 15 years.
Talech is a product from Elavon, so your bank is probably connected with them.
You have other choices besides Square and Talech. If you’re just starting out and want to avoid monthly fees, Square might be a good option while you’re building your client base.
Once you’re processing a few thousand dollars or more each month with credit cards, it might be time to upgrade to a proper merchant account.
That said, I haven’t seen this issue in Michigan so far. It’s hard to believe any dealers would still be doing that now that stock is more available compared to a year ago.
Talech was good when I used them, but I didn’t really need to talk to their customer service. Their online portal worked well, though.
Compare fees, hardware, customer support, and features between Talech and Square. Consider your husband’s positive experience with Square. Explore other options if needed.
