Fake payments... what do I do?

Has anyone dealt with scams involving edited Cash App screenshots? Someone sent me a screenshot saying they paid me, but the payment isn’t showing on my end. How do I handle this kind of situation?

Update: They even emailed me a fake email disguised as one from Cash App. All this effort over a $30 wallet… it’s wild, but I guess people will try anything.

Tell them you’ll ship the product once the payment clears. If they insist they’ve already paid, tell them to contact Cash App themselves. It’s not on you to figure it out for them.

Always confirm the payment in your account directly. Scammers put a lot of work into fake screenshots and emails, even for small amounts. Never rely on screenshots.

Just tell them you need to verify the payment before sending anything. Don’t budge on that!

No payment confirmation, no product. It’s that simple. Wait until the payment shows up for real.

Don’t give them anything. If they claim they paid, they can contact their bank. Also, maybe stop using Cash App for this kind of stuff.

Do not send anything. Just tell them: no confirmed payment, no product. Stick to your guns.

Politely explain that you can’t ship because the payment hasn’t come through. Suggest they check with their bank.

Do you have a system to keep track of addresses and block scammers from trying this again?

Honestly, just laugh it off and tell them ‘better luck next time.’ If this happened on a platform like Facebook Marketplace, make sure to review them or report them before they block you.
