17 years old and starting a business… any tips?

Hi everyone, I’m 17 and I’ve been working on starting my own business. For the past few months, I’ve been putting in a lot of effort designing and planning my product with help from my dad and a few friends. I’d really appreciate any advice or tips from anyone who has been on this journey before. If you’ve got any insight or lessons to share, I’m all ears. You can reply here or message me directly. Thanks in advance!

Just a quick reminder for everyone here… this forum is a place for questions and answers about starting, running, and growing small businesses. If a post breaks the rules, it may be removed, and repeated issues could lead to a ban. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out to the moderators.

What kind of business are you starting? Sales should be your main focus when you’re just getting started. Don’t get too caught up in perfecting your product or service—just focus on selling it and building relationships with customers.

Starting a business takes time, and it’s not always going to be easy. There will be tough days when you might feel like giving up. But keep your dream in mind, and remember why you started. You’ve already taken the first step, and that’s huge. Stay strong—you’ve got this!

Make sure to set aside at least 15% of your earnings for taxes and pay them on time. If your business can’t afford to cover its taxes, it’s a sign you might need to reevaluate your finances or pricing. Planning ahead will save you a lot of stress later on.
