Time Request Management Software

My family runs a small business with roughly 20 employees, and we are having trouble with the way we are currently handling requests for time off. I would like to move to some sort of software that tracks each employee’s remaining sick/vacation days, deducts it when they use it, accrues it when I want it to, shows a calendar of the days employees will be absent, lets me approve time off, etc. However, every program I looked at was either too expensive (Bamboo Hr) or too complicated/couldn’t accomplish what I wanted it to (TrackSmart). Is there a software that someone could recommend to us?

We use the “When I Work” App at DMAC a small Apple Computer Repair Shop in Surrey BC. Works great for us as far as I know.

Free and Freemium Options:

Google Sheets: While not a dedicated solution, Google Sheets can serve as a viable free option for small businesses with a limited number of employees. You can create spreadsheets to manage employee time off, accruals, and absences. There are also free templates available online to help you get started. However, as your company grows and requires more advanced functionalities, Google Sheets may become cumbersome.

Clockify: Clockify offers a free plan that includes basic time tracking and leave management features. It allows you to track employee hours, schedule time off, and view upcoming absences. However, the free plan limits the number of users and may lack more complex features like detailed reporting or accrual rules.

Affordable Paid Options:

Zoho People: Zoho People offers a free plan with limited features, but its paid plans are generally more affordable compared to some competitors. It provides comprehensive features such as time-off tracking, leave management, accrual rules, and absence calendars. Zoho People is also praised for its intuitive interface.

TrackTime: TrackTime strikes a good balance between affordability and functionality. It supports tracking time off, leave requests, absences, and accruals. With a simple interface, it integrates well with popular payroll software, making it a practical choice for businesses.

LeaveBoard: Specifically designed for leave management, LeaveBoard is known for its user-friendly approach. It facilitates tracking time off, managing leave requests and approvals, and handling accruals. It offers various pricing plans based on the number of employees, potentially making it cost-effective for businesses of various sizes.

Additional Tips:

Consider Free Trials: Many time-off tracking software options provide free trials. Utilize these trials to assess features and determine if they align with your business needs before committing to a paid plan.

Focus on Your Requirements: Identify the functionalities that are essential for your business, such as accrual rules, absence calendars, and approval workflows. Don’t be swayed by features that may not be relevant to your specific needs.

Employee Feedback: Solicit input from your employees regarding features they consider important in a time-off tracking system. This feedback can guide your decision-making process and ensure that the chosen software is user-friendly and beneficial for everyone involved.
