If you own a business, you probably get these annoying calls. They go something like this… 'Your Google listing is not verified, press 1 to fix it now or press 2 to be removed…'I’ve been getting these calls since 2019, sometimes three times a day. I tried adding my number to the do-not-call list, but they just change their numbers constantly. Anyone figured out a way to stop them?
Just a heads-up that this forum is for questions and discussions about running a small business. If your post doesn’t follow the rules, it might be removed. If you have any questions, reach out to the mods.
I set up a phone menu system for all my business numbers. Callers have to press 3 to get through. It stopped almost all robocalls.
They do slow down after a while. Now that you bring it up, I realize I haven’t gotten one in weeks! Used to get them nonstop from payment processors too.

How long did it take? I’ve been dealing with this for 20 years, and they still call me. I just hang up every time.
I use an automated answering system, and it blocks most of them.

What do you mean by an automated answering system?

It’s the thing where you call a company, and it says ‘Press 1 for support, press 2 for sales…’ That’s an auto attendant. It filters out most spam calls.
Adding an automated phone menu was a game changer for me. Not only does it stop robocalls, but salespeople don’t bother either. If they think they’re just going to hit a customer service rep, they won’t bother.
I like to mess with them. I ask for their company name and location, then Google it while they’re on the line. Most of the time, they hang up when I point out that they aren’t even using the service they’re trying to sell.
I record the calls and ask if they know what they’re doing is illegal. They usually get flustered and hang up. Then I report them to the FCC with the recording.Sometimes I just ask them for a call-back number, which they can never provide. Then I say, ‘What kind of business has no phone number? Doesn’t that seem weird?’ They hang up fast.
@Zen
The problem is when it’s a robocall, and you don’t even get a person to mess with. Answering just encourages them to keep calling.
I just say I’m not the owner. They hang up right away.
I can tell it’s them by the little beep at the start of the call. I just hang up immediately.
Like others have said, an automated system works wonders. Mine just says, ‘Thanks for calling, press 1 to speak to someone.’ That alone blocks most of these calls.
